A Very Unique College in Which to Study Environmental Science

By: Daniel Z. Kane

If you get cold just thinking about Alaska, or if your idea of a great time outdoors is putting on headphones and walking your dog for ten or fifteen minutes, read no further.

But, if Alaska is your idea of a wonderful place to live, keep reading. You may be about to fall in love with a university.

Alaska Pacific University is a truly unique institution. APU's 200 acre campus includes a lake, and it's not unusual to see a moose, birds, or other animals on campus.

Students can focus in liberal arts or business, or study marine biology, environmental science, or outdoor studies.

It's hard to imagine a better laboratory for the study of the environment than the Anchorage area and the Alaskan wilderness which begins less than an hour from the APU campus.

And, the University extends learning well beyond the borders of Alaska. During the January block, students have been able to take an oceanography course in Hawaii, a tropical ecology course in Borneo, or travel elsewhere to broaden themselves.

APU is certainly not for everyone, but if the environment and the great outdoors are your passions, the University has a lot to offer you.
