Prevent Shaving Irritation

By: Joseph Chanbrawati

One of the most frustrating grooming tasks for both men and women is shaving. Men who shave daily may suffer from uneasiness and scars. Same is the case with woman. They may not shave as often as men but cover a greater surface area. However, all is not lost. There are many products and techniques available in the market to prevent shaving irritation, razor burns, bumps and ingrown hairs.

A number of products are available in the market for men who want a daily, irritation free shave. The list is long. Products like special face washes, aftershave lotions and special creams are there to keep you free from any shaving irritation or issues. However, before you choose a lotion, cream or gel make sure that it suits your skin.

The best way for men to find a shaving product that will work with your skin type as well as preventing shaving irritation, speak to your dermatologist. He or she will be able to steer you towards any products that will work best with your particular skin. Also, there are a variety of prescription products that may work best to clear up any irritation you may be experiencing, and these items are only able to be bought with a prescription. A quick visit to your dermatologist will also allow you to understand the problem and your dermatologist will be able to show you any techniques when it comes to shaving.

Though aftershaves are used by many men they can be quite harmful in the sense they use alcohol which dries up the skin and causes further irritation. So, you should look for aftershaves that contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and have a minimum alcohol content to prevent your skin from becoming dry and fragile. Also, you can go in for lotions instead of aftershaves.

Women often experience a variety of problems that result from shaving. Depending on the woman herself, the problem may be razor burn, painful bumps, or ingrown hairs. All of these problems can be prevented using the proper techniques or products. For instance, razor burn occurs when the skin is shaved while dry or without any type of lubrication like soap, shaving cream, or shaving gel. In order to prevent razor burn, properly apply gels or creams that will allow you not only to avoid burning your skin, but also help prevent cuts or nicks. Some women choose to use soap, but it may dry out your skin and leave it vulnerable to further irritation.

In order to prevent bumps or ingrown hairs, which are frequently around the bikini area that can be both painful and embarrassing, consider banishing shaving and opting for waxing. When hair is waxed, the entire shaft of hair is removed at the root, preventing tiny stubble from growing underneath the top layer of skin. If you would rather continue shaving, look for a lotion containing a slight analgesic to prevent ingrown hairs.

Laser hair removal is another option for women and men who are sick of constantly shaving and experiencing painful irritation. It zaps the hair follicle and stops any hair production. However, not everyone can afford this expensive treatment. Plus, it takes quite a few visits to the clinic for the procedure to be effective.

The best solution for preventing shaving irritation lies in opting for a method and then sticking to it. It is also important to keep your skin healthy and hydrated for an optimum result.
