Depilatoring is a chemical process to remove hairs. The basic process is simple, a hair removal cream is applied to the area to be treated, left for a certain amount of time, and then washed off. The cream contains chemicals, which burn the hairs off at the level of the skin.

This gives rise to a concern. This being the reaction of the skin to the chemicals. So it is essential to treat a small area first to see how your skin reacts, and if there are any adverse reactions, not to continue. As there are many different types of depilatories available, then it may be simply a case of trying different ones until you find one which suits you. It is also advisable to repeat this test, with every new purchase of cream. This is because manufacturers are constantly improving their products, or trying to, and so the formulation may be different to the last time you bought the same product. So don't assume that because you have used something before, that you will always have the same reaction to it.

It is advisable before undertaking this treatment to have a nice warm bath or shower. This has the dual purpose of softening the hairs, making the cream more effective, and also making the hairs move away from the skin. So that the treatment can remove the hairs to a level just below the skin surface when it cools down

This treatment has to be repeated every few days, to keep the area completely free of hairs. It also has the disadvantage, that with very dark haired people, the area may have a shadow caused by the hair just below the level of the skin. I personally have never tried this treatment, and so I cannot say how effective or ineffective it is. After saying that, all the evidence points to this being a fairly effective if time-consuming method of hair removal.
