Waxing is a common method of hair removal, and has been in existence for many years. This is a process which can be done at home, or at a salon by a professional. Waxing can treat any area of the body. Most of the at home kits use a cold wax process, but the process is the same as the hot wax process except for the heating. With the hot wax process the wax is heated in a heater, until it just melts, and is then applied to the area to be treated using a wooden spatula Immediately, cloth strips either cotton or muslin, are applied to the wax. The wax is allowed to cool down, and then the cloth strip is pulled off fast as possible. The hairs are caught in the wax and are broken off, either at the skin level or just below. The hot wax method is more effective, as it causes the hair to stand up and move away from the skin. This method of hair removal lasts for several days or even weeks.
This method is very painful, and after the cloth strip is torn away, pressure is applied to the area, to lessen the pain. The pain does not last for long, and it is claimed that the pain diminishes with each treatment. Overtime this treatment causes the hair to thin and sometimes even to stop growing altogether.
